What is Your Role

So Lent has been leading us to this week, Holy Week.  I don’t know about you but I have heard this Gospel before.  I have read aloud the parts of the crowd.  So what is different this time?  I suggest maybe this time read the Gospel and put you in it.  Take a role.  Maybe this year your Peter, professing that you will never let our Lord down and within a few hours stating “I do not know the man.”  Maybe you are one of the high priests who send out for Jesus to be arrested.  You might even be one of good faith and never thought it would come to this.  There you are standing with those accusing Jesus of false crimes.  How can this be happening? Time to keep your mouth shut or you might be next.  This year maybe you’re
Pilate who find nothing wrong or criminal in Jesus but have him scourged and eventually crucified.  Or could you be one of the crowd easily following others and yelling “crucify him, crucify him.”  Are you Simon?  You are only really helping Jesus because someone made you help pick up the cross.  This time you might be one of the many women who followed up the hill crying and wailing at what your sins have come to.  There are so many others like Joseph of Arimathea, Mary Magdalene, and the centurion with very little faith but said “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

Yes, there are lots of roles to go around; we all had a part in His crucifixion.  So as we go forward into Holy Week we remember our role in Jesus crucifixion and His call to us ultimately in His Resurrection.
